Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a brand new school year! My name is Miss Burton and I will be your child’s Humanities (Social Studies, English, Writing, and Spelling) teacher this year. I am looking forward to playing a major role in your child’s learning experience in third grade.

It will be an interesting year filled with many new friendships, learning experiences, fun, laughter and of course, hard work. Third grade is a transitional year. We’re getting ready for those intermediate grades, and the work starts getting harder. You and I working together will make this a productive and pleasant year for your child.

Homework is a crucial component to any true learning process. I do not assign meaningless busy work; nor do I assign an excessive amount of work. I do expect all the work to be completed neatly and handed in on time.  Please check your child’s planner every night. A note will be sent home for you to sign if homework becomes a problem.

If possible, I would like each child to bring in a notebook for Social Studies and English. . These notebooks will help keep your child’s work organized. I have provided each child a yellow Humanities folder. Please check this folder daily for important notes or homework. The folder is to be returned to school each day.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 826-7222. I will be available from 8:10-8:30 and 3:10-3:30. I am looking forward to a great year and look forward to seeing you at Open House.
